The Fall 2014 runways were abundant with reinvented retro looks that gave a serious nod to mod. The trick to embracing the throwback trend is modernizing the look- keep it casual, not costume. Our girl Danielle Cirilli does a modern take on graphic brushstroke lids to perfectly suit the new back-to-school wardrobe you just splurged on. Whether you’re sporting heavily inked lids, or crisply lined lashes, the best accessory for these wide-eyed sixties looks is confidence. Go forth and get graphic!
Stroke of Genius
Breathe new life into the traditional bombshell cat-eye by creating a double winged look. Begin to prep the lid with a light neutral base shadow, followed by a subtle shadow to contour the crease. Apply a thick, sinuous swoop of liquid liner to the top lid, extend past the lash line and taper up and out. Use a pencil liner on the bottom lash line, wing out with an angled brush. To heighten the drama, add individual lashes to top and bottom lash lines, coat with a few swipes of black mascara. A light peach lip pencil adds a touch of femininity, while allowing the focus to remain on your eyes.
Rough and Tumble
Deep side-combed hair looks undeniably chic, and it’s the easiest way to change up your look come fall. Roughed up texture adds the perfect amount of “I woke up like dis” attitude. Prep dried strands with a natural texture spray wax. Softly tease hair at the crown, to make them easier to manipulate, then spray and smooth hair. Create a deep side-part, and set with a light hold spray.
