One thing is for sure: The South’s rap game is definitely on the come-up. While cities like Detroit and NYC are notorious for spitting out rappers who quickly graduate to the to the major leagues, the focus, as of late, is turning to the South. Case in point: Big K.R.I.T., who hails from Mississippi. K.R.I.T. dropped his second album, Cadillactica, last week, and is giving his contemporaries a run for their money. The album transcends the genre of rap, weaving energetic R&B and electronic textures with rapid-fire lyrics, bountiful bass, and a surplus of soul that give us major flashbacks to early Outkast (I don’t hate it…).
