Treasure Hunt | SCHOOLZ

Treasure Hunt

My favorite time of the year is finally here; it’s time to break out the sandals and short shorts! When it comes to clothing and accessories- less is always more. Find your summer sole mate! The SCHOOLZ have a great chunky heel and sleek ankle straps, making it the perfect shoe for stomping around all season long. I like to pair them with a simple, no-fuss outfit. Before we jump into this thrift trip, here's a bit about me:

My Name is Domenica Villa. I'm a Los Angeles native and an avid thrift shopper, some might even say I'm an addict. I collect, sell, design, and rework vintage pieces. My specialty is embellishing vintage denim with unique, hand painted designs. I spend the majority of my time rummaging through thrift stores and warehouses. The best feeling in the world is finding that needle in the haystack!

I love discovering one of a kind pieces that no one else owns. You can make an inexpensive piece look like a million bucks just by styling it up. I like to imagine that someone once loved the piece and had the time of their life while rocking it. There is something nostalgic about recycling vintage threads and rediscovering ways to wear certain trends.

My fascination for thrift shopping began about ten years ago. I was inspired by the allure and costumes of old Hollywood actresses. Watching movies sparked a yearning to recreate stand-out looks on screen in a modern way. I dove head first into eBay and eventually worked my way towards becoming a thrift store master! Some of my favorite scores to date are vintage Chanel, Versace, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood pieces. As the old cliche goes- patience is key. You can not rush or you might miss out.

For this Treasure Hunt, I went to Buffalo Exchange in Studio City, CA and Flamingo Vintage in Downtown LA.

This vintage Clash tee truly found me and was begging to be DIY’ed- it was too good to pass up. I immediately envisioned it as a two-piece set, cut it up and turned it into the perfect little rock n’ roll number.

I came across this gorgeous vintage floral lace dress. I fell in love with the sheer fabric and embroidered flowers. The design is simple, yet has such interesting detail. Pairing the SCHOOLZ with a delicate dress adds just enough edge. I completed my look  with a hat and jewelry.

I found this flirty off-the-shoulder 90s crop top and paired it with slightly baggy, high-waisted shorts—a very casual outfit for a hot summer day. The strappy SCHOOLZ sandals completed my 90’s vibe.
