The Cool Planet Journey
Fashion, meet sustainability.
Our shoes are for a generation that believes in a world where fashion and sustainability live together. Where using less, reusing more, and being transparent defines the status quo.
Cool Planet is a sustainable innovation brand within Steve Madden. Learn more about our company’s sustainability journey here.
Choosing materials that conserve nonrenewable resources, take less energy and water to produce, and are free from harmful chemicals.
Rescuing used materials like water bottles and memory foam from entering the landfill and giving them a new life – all in an effort to close our production loop.
Detailing the material contents of each shoe and reporting regularly on our tree-planting projects across the globe.
We’re striving to make shoes that deliver today’s fashion in a more sustainable way. This means using innovative materials and processes that tread more softly on the planet and constantly improving and adapting as we learn more.
Our outsoles are made from recycled plastic and rubber materials. Most plastics are made from oil, which is a nonrenewable resource. That's just one reason why it's so important to recycle and reuse plastic.
Not only do recycled fabrics save valuable resources from ending up in a landfill, but they also use less water, energy, and raw materials in the production process.
Our shoelaces are made from recycled cotton, recycled polyester, or fibers containing recycled plastic bottles, another way to prevent materials from ending up in a landfill.
This material is free of harsh solvents and uses less energy to produce than traditional PU. In addition, it creates less waste and water pollution during the manufacturing process.
BLOOM®️ is an algae-based EVA foam made with algae biomass that would otherwise pollute vital water sources. It’s a carbon neutral material that decreases our dependency on petroleum, a non-renewable resource.
Our shoe boxes are completely recyclable and made from 90% post-consumer waste. Just another way that we’re giving valuable materials a new life.
